Preparations for my Talk |
This Sunday I give my first public talk that is going to be translated! Woohoo! Its strange, though, because I've never had this experience before. It is going to be a load of fun. Because the way of life is simpler here, the talks have to be simpler. So I have to be a little more imaginative, believe it or not. You would think that it would be easier to give a talk that is simpler, but it takes more work for my brain to figure out how to present it differently. Combine that with the fact that I am now presenting it to an African congregation for the first time, one with totally different problems and ways of thinking. This talk is a bit more challenging than I thought it would be. I've never had to completely change my thinking processes before. Its like trying to make a square block fit into a triangle hole. It will work, you just need enough force!
So anyway. Yeah. I'll be doing that.
Random Picture Time! |
Alright, updates are over, so now I go to take a nap! Or work on my talk some...I haven't decided.
Ps. Taby Panduro put a funny story on her Blog of something happening to Chris. Check it out in my links!
I like to make my talks simple enough that most young children can understand; seems to help all.
ReplyDeleteCharles- I like that. I think I usually do the same, now that I think about it. At least, I'm pretty sure. The only trick is learning what they will understand. For instance, not only do they think simpler (but still intelligent people, mind you) but they don't use as many figures of speech. So it's interesting totally retraining my brain to speak so literal AND in a simple way.
ReplyDeleteBecause the way of life is so less complicated, they've never had to think too complicated. So most times in the field we are teaching them to reason and think. For a public talk, though, you have to speak and think on their level, shuck is not LOWER, just more SIMPLE. Not sure if that makes sense, but it's better understood if you experience it, haha.
Shuck=Which in "IPod spell correction" language.
ReplyDeleteHey! I'm so proud of you. Jehovah is difinetly blessing you. Not sure what time it is there. Almost 12:00 AM here and I can't sleep. Service tomorrow so I better sleep tonight. Gran loves you Trevor.
ReplyDeletePS Jaden is really enjoying Bethel
がんばってね! 大丈夫だよ (だいじょうぶだよ)! You're still in our prayers, and now we have some more specific things to pray for. The friends there are still definitely in our prayers too! It's wonderful you have so many wonderful privileges there, it's means you're doing a good job, keep it up!
